Our Fashion Show

This is a video of my First Year Fashion Degree class and our first Fashion Show held at Crownhill Fort.

I am the 8th model in this catwalk in a two piece outfit designed and made by Amiee Deubert.

My own dress I designed and made is also in this collection and is number 19 in the run-through.

My dress is being model by my friend Chloe Luckhurst who is also starring in this video as a designer and her black jumpsuit is number 12 in the run-through.

I am looking forward to our final night fashion show tonight and will hopefully have some more pictures. Our Fashion Show has also been filmed by Sky and will be put on a Catwalking site.
Exciting Stuff!

Labels

I decided to create a label for go with my Solaris collection Saturn. I wanted to use the same colours as my dress hwich were Green and Blue.

These are the 8 designs for labels I have drawn. I tried to mix up the colour sof the logo and background but always stuck to using green and blue. I really like the long thin design on the right, so this is the design I will choose for my garment.

I would place my label on the inside facing of my dress, so it would always lay flat and not have a chance of popping out the dress as it would be facing down because of the facing. I am happy with my final label design.

My Solaris Brand

I picked design 7 from my Branding Designs, but still has to pick what colour I wanted my Brand - Solaris to have.

I really liked the grey and yellow colour choices (Design 3) but I thought to fit in with Brand theme of Solaris, that my collections will all take the name of a planet in the solar system. For this I thought the best option would be Design 7. I chose this design as the colours remind me of the colours of the Sun, which is the center of the solar system so fits quite well and it is striking.

This is my Brand's design/logo which I would like to have on the front of a store one day.

This is an example of what my Brand logo would like on a store front.

My next task is to create labels for my garments.

Branding Designs

I have designed 8 potential Brand logos that would be on carrier bags, price tags and the design of my brand on shop fronts.

Design 1.
This design is edgy and only uses straight lines, I want to try using a softer design.

Design 2.
This design I thought I would use one of the planets in my design.

Design 3.
This design I thought I would add a slight touch of my Space theme and used a star in my brand.

Design 4.
This design I used swirly writing to show my brand is soft and inviting.

Design 5.
This design I tried to portray a alien language to show the Space theme.

Design 6.
This design was to show the clothes can fit both large and small women.

Design 7.
I liked the idea of making my brand name look like a alien language, so this is another design using that idea/theme.

Design 8.
This is the second further attempt of creating an alien language for my brand.

If I could get opinions on which design looks the best would be a great help.

My Final Garment

This is my final garment.

From making my toile I found it alot easier to make my final garment as I had already worked out the quickest and best way to sew my pieces together. I used my navy blue cotton material as my underneath fabric, and for my top layer I used clear grey Chiffon. I also foiled into my bottom fabric, foiling was my surface textiles technique. I am happy with my foiling, but I did not get to use the green shade I wanted.

This is the front of my garment.
This is the right side of my garment.
This is the left side of my garment.
This is the back of my garment.

To attatch the two fabrics together I joined them along the neck line which I curved to go along the collar bone and end up low at the back, seen from the back view of the dress. To pull the top fabric over slightly so you dont see the bottom fabric along the top edge, I added a facing along the whole top of the dress, until the zip and top stitched along the top. To secure the dress I used ribbon to add decoration and support, to secure this I top stitched the ribbon to the neck.
To secure both fabrics at the bottom of the dress, I created a loop which I foiled with the same green as I printed my planets with. I gathered the chiffon equally the bottom of the dress so that both fabrics laid flat and the gathers added a nice effect and helped the dress full nicely.

I am very happy with my outcome of my dress, if I was to make one correction I would try to make less of a bulky area where the side seams join, around the area under the arm pit.

My Practise

This is my Toile.

A toile is where you make your garment using your patterns with cheap fabric so you can work out the order of construction and see if there are any mistakes with your pattern before making your final garment.
For my toile I used the same cotton underneath layer of my dress that I will be using in my final garment. For my top layer I used Calico as it was cheap and a wide fabric.

This is the front of my toile.
This is the right side of my toile.
This is the left side of my toile.
This is the back of my toile.

Now that I have finished my toile I will begin to make my final garment is the order I created this toile. There were some mistakes with my patterns, so making this toile helped me locate these and correct them in time.
